A Journey Through Kerala's Spice Gardens

Nestled in the verdant embrace of the Western Ghats lies Wayanad, a region where nature’s bounty is vividly on display. It is here that Malabar Heritage has established its roots, cultivating some of the finest spices and nuts in the world.
An Ecosystem of Harmony
Our spice gardens are not mere plantations; they are thriving ecosystems. We practice multi-cropping, a traditional method where various spices, fruit trees, and nuts are grown together. Tall areca nut trees provide natural shade for delicate cardamom plants, while black pepper vines gracefully climb the sturdy trunks of jackfruit and silver oak trees. This symbiotic relationship naturally enriches the soil and repels pests, significantly reducing the need for external interventions.
The Symphony of Scents
A walk through our gardens is a sensory revelation. The air is thick with the sweet, floral aroma of blooming cardamom, punctuated by the sharp, woody scent of cloves and the warm, comforting smell of cinnamon bark. During harvest seasons, the vibrant colors of ripe coffee cherries and fresh nutmeg add a visual feast to the aromatic experience.
Experiential Eco-Tourism
Through initiatives like our 900 Kandi Eco Tourism project and the Green Mountain Resort, we invite guests to experience this magic firsthand. Visitors can participate in spice walks, learn about the intricate harvesting processes, and understand the profound connection between the land and the local indigenous communities.
Our spice gardens are a living testament to the fact that when agriculture works in harmony with nature, the results are truly extraordinary.
